London, UK (PRWEB) October 4, 2008

SRC, the UK's leading provider of healthcare digital dictation and speech recognition solutions, announced today that it is to introduce the WinScribe digital dictation system to 800 users at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) in a phased approach. The initial phase will see the SRC WinScribe solution deployed to over 185 users in the Surgical Services Directorate. The deployment is central to the hospitals plans to cut waiting times and improve document turnaround times and is the first major contract under the East Midlands re:source hub digital dictation framework agreement with SRC.

The SRC WinScribe solution represents a dramatic improvement on the current tape based system and will efficiently process and route all the Trusts dictations between authors and secretaries and corresponding transcriptions back to authors. Using advanced workflow management tools, which will be deployed by SRC's experienced team, critical dictations containing vital patient information will be automatically prioritised and securely distributed to the relevant secretaries. Users will also access the simple and intuitive WinScribe interface to quickly and easily find dictations, identify priority work and manage their time more effectively. Efficiencies gained by the rationalisation of the Trusts document creation processes and management of workflow will also ensure UHL meets Department of Health sustainability targets and improves the patient experience.

Under the terms of the agreement, SRC is implementing, training and supporting the phased roll-out of the new digital dictation solution. SRC is managing all of the training requirements to ensure that users have a comprehensive understanding of the solution and can quickly migrate to the new way of working. SRC train authors to dictate using either standard landline and mobile telephones or a range of Philips desktop and portable devices. The ability to dictate using telephones frees authors from the need to physically be on site to transfer dictations for typing.

The solution also employs the SRC NotifyMeTM software module. The latest of a range of SRC software modules has been tailored to NHS requirements and enables doctors to be rapidly notified, via email or SMS messaging, that urgent dictations have been transcribed and are ready for checking. This will enhance and accelerate the review and approval cycles, so further streamlining the overall document creation process.

Commenting on the advanced workflow solution, Miranda Pilkington General Manager - Efficiency Unit at UHL said, "We are dedicated to improving patient care and achieving and sustaining the Department of Health's 18 week programme. The SRC WinScribe solution enables us to build on the work we have already started and accelerate document turnaround times by simplifying the transfer of dictations and work across the Trust. The ability to see the flow of work removes both risk and frustration, helping us work collaboratively to remove and eliminate typing backlogs. Through our initial meetings with SRC and meetings with other Trusts who have already deployed the solution, we are confident that we have found a partner that is committed to helping us achieve and sustain our long-term goals of enhancing the quality of care and the strength of our business."

Chris Hart, CEO at SRC said, "By combining our healthcare experience and workflow management expertise we can transform the way UHL work. SRC's extensive experience in the healthcare market and digital dictation technologies will enable UHL to reduce costs and free up staff time which can be concentrated on critical projects that improve patient care. We are committed to helping UHL deliver excellent patient services, meet Department of Health targets and improve the efficiency of its operations through the professional and high-quality implementation of new and innovative ways of working and creating documentation."

UHL are the first NHS Trust to utilise the East Midlands framework agreement, which was won by SRC following a competitive tender process. The agreement is available to all NHS Trusts across Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire County & Rutland and Northamptonshire, negating the need for member Trusts to carry out their own time consuming and costly tendering process.

The Trust is the latest in a line of NHS Trusts, including Ealing Hospital, Chesterfield Royal, Taunton and Somerset, Brighton and Sussex, Darent Valley Hospital, the Dudley Group of Hospitals and Royal West Sussex to have turned to SRC and the innovative, world leading, WinScribe digital dictation solution to improve document production efficiencies.
